FAITH, FAMILY, & FREEDOM

These three pillars are interdependent in the American experiment. These timeless principles represent the reason for this book. With so many wonderful sources of literature discussing these ideals, one must ask, why is this book worthy of my time? Naturally before spending countless hours writing, I had to ask myself the same question. It was upon the recognition of my unique location, living in Wood County, Ohio, a “Swing County”, that I knew that I had struck gold. Through a compilation of seven stories of Millennials in Swing County America, who swung from Obama to Trump, this work revives the importance of these timeless ideals of faith, family, and freedom in the electoral context.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

“Jonathan’s unique perspective on swing state politics gives a deeper understanding of what makes Ohio a bellwether state. The book’s focus on millennial voters through the telling of recent, real-life stories will give insight into what makes a swing voter tick.”
Mike DeWine, Governor, OH
“Political pundits and pollsters offer broad generalizations for how and why people develop political views, but Jonathan has taken the time to give a firsthand account. His writing gives a glimpse into the ways millennials understand their communities.”
Jon Husted, Lt. Governor, OH
“In one of the fiercest battlegrounds, this goes beneath the surface of the “Trump phenomenon” to examine why Millennial’s are not just changing their vote but also their ideology. Jakubowski’s work is a blueprint for persuading the Millennial generation.”
Robert Sprague, Treasurer of State, OH
“Jonathan Jakubowski’s book takes a good, hard look at the fight for the heart and mind that’s facing this millennial generation – one so used to the utilization of massive amounts of information from countless sources – as they chart their political course.”
Frank LaRose, Secretary of State, OH
“Bellwether Blues by Jonathan Jakubowski is a powerful book and commentary that provides firsthand insight into the future for how Conservatives can truly succeed in winning the hearts and minds of the next generation.”
Keith Faber, Auditor, OH

“Contrary to some reports – as Bellwether Blues shows through powerful personal stories – all hope is not lost with millennials! I get to see inspiring young people awakening to faith and freedom on a daily basis, and Jonathan’s book is a great inspiration.”

Adam Josefczyk, President, Forge
“Bellwether Blues gives hope to conservatives who fret about America’s future. I’ve met thousands of Ohioans expressing this concern. Jonathan gives them the answers they seek through this incredible work. A must read for conservatives of all ages.”
Josh Mandel, Former Treasurer, OH
“This talented writer’s book is a needed and welcomed departure from the narrowness of social media debate to help us understand the phenomenon of the swing politics voter. There is no better place than Wood County as the foundation for this important work.”
Randy Gardner, Former Senator, OH

7 STORIES

Through a compilation of seven stories of Millennials in Swing County America, who swung from Obama to Trump, this work revives the importance of these timeless ideals of faith, family, and freedom in the electoral context. Meet the seven heroes of this Bellwether story. None of the interviewed individuals are rich, famous, or well known. But, in this book, I refer to them as the everyday heroes who advance the timeless vision of our Founders. Frankly, I admire their courage to allow their stories to be told publicly, come what may.

Tiffany

From desperate and abandoned to an inspired nonprofit founder, Tiffany experienced a 180-degree transformation. This shift was reflected in her political views as her unborn children changed her perspective on life which would swing her vote in ‘16.

Jenna

The youngest of three girls from small-town Ohio with a Conservative-military Dad was not enough to prevent Obama-fever from hitting Jenna’s household. Once away from home on a college campus, the lessons and values taught by her Dad resurfaced in the ’16 election.

Jose

Originally from Guatemala, Jose received his citizenship in ’17, and could not vote in the ’16 election. However, his is a story worth sharing, as the damaging effects of illegal immigration directly impacted his life. Foreign to America’s political system, the only thing that he knew about then President Obama was positive. But, as soon as he came to America and began the process of naturalization, Jose recognized that his values contrasted with the Democratic Party, leading him to support Donald Trump.

Arron

Growing up in inner-city Cleveland, Arron understood the challenges facing inner-city racial minorities. Only a handful of friends had fathers in the home and many were deeply impacted by poverty, drugs, and negative influences at a young age. Not so for Arron, whose father and mother, were resolved to see their children succeed in life. In ’08 and ‘12, everyone from the black community, Arron included, believed that hope and change were coming from President Barack Obama. Arron grew to become deeply disillusioned by a lack of progress and a rejection of Christian values. Disillusionment grew into the conviction that big government is not the solution. Rather, strong independent families form the bedrock of society, which informed his vote in ’16 and will inform his vote ’20.

Douglas

As a teenager, Douglas was a champion for socialism after reading the Communist Manifesto. Once in college, his relational network expanded to include some of the leading socialist thinkers in the region. The more he learned about them, the less he liked about their message. Upon meeting an independent-thinking veteran, all of his thinking and voting was turned upside-down.

Alfonso

2012 was Alfonso’s first opportunity to vote and voting for Barack Obama was not even a question. As a Division One football player at Bowling Green, Alfonso didn’t have the time to study political positions, he simply voted for what culture encouraged. However, in four years, Alfonso’s faith grew vibrant. Consequently, he made every decision on the basis of his faith, including voting. Deep thought and prayer awakened this millennial soul, swinging his support in the 2016 election.

Jeremy

Growing up in a union family in rural Wood County, Jeremy was taught the value of hard work from an early age. For his entire life, his family was supportive of the Democratic Party, no questions asked. Jeremy would follow in his father’s footsteps becoming a part of the union. In ’08, like his entire family, Jeremy did not think twice about supporting the Democratic nominee, Barack Obama. However, rising attacks on individual freedom and the Second Amendment awakened this millennial soul.
